On October 26, 2010, at about 7pm, Hamiota and Elphinstone RCMP as well as local Emergency Services were dispatched to the scene of a residential fire in the Town of Hamiota.

None of the occupants of the residence were at home at the time of the fire. After the blaze was extinguished, a small marijuana grow operation was located inside the home.

The cause of the fire appears to be faulty electrical wiring and is not thought to be linked to the marihuana grow operation at this time. No damage estimates are available.

No arrests have been made in connection with the grow operation at this time and RCMP along with the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner continue to investigate.
