RCMP have charged a Winnipeg man in connection with a personating a police officer incident that occurred at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch in East St. Paul earlier this past October.
On October 13th, 2010, East St. Paul RCMP were advised that an individual had attended the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 215 in East St. Paul, Manitoba, identifying himself as the Detachment Commander of the East St. Paul RCMP Detachment.
On October 29, 2010, the man returned to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 215 in East St. Paul where he was arrested by RCMP investigators.
A search warrant was later executed at a residence in Winnipeg. A variety of police paraphernalia including police uniform items were seized by police.
52-year-old Thomas David Hanaway of Winnipeg has been charged with two counts of personating a peace officer, two counts of breach recognizance and four counts of breach probation.
Hanaway was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court Monday November 1, 2010.
East St. Paul RCMP wish to advise the public that Thomas Hanaway (also known as Tom Hanna) is not, nor has he ever been, associated with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Police continue to investigate.
