On February 5, 2009 at 10:15 pm, RCMP Powerview were called to the intersection of Hwy 304 and PTH 11 in the town of Powerview-Pine Falls where a semi-truck with tanker had overturned, causing gasoline to spill from the tanker.
Police, Pine Falls fire Dept and EMS arrived on scene to find the Male driver uninjured. Police quickly evacuated the area to a 1 km radius for the safety of near by residence. Both highways were closed during the entire investigation. HAZMAT team from Winnipeg was called to assist in the spill.
It was learned that the semi-truck was turning right onto PTH 11, when the rear end of the tanker trailer did not clear the ditch embankment and slowly rolled onto the side. The tanker was filled with approx. 32,000 litres of gasoline. Once all measure’s were taken to get the tanker safety upright, it was found that approx. 450 litres of gasoline had leaked into the ditch. The spill was safely cleaned.
The damage to the semi-track and tanker estimated approximately $10,000.
The near by residence were allowed to return home just after 3:00 am, and both highways were reopened for travel.
