At approximately 12am on November 5, 2010, while investigating a Highway Traffic Act offence, Central Plains RCMP seized a quantity of marijuana.
RCMP members on patrol observed a 1992 Toyota Corolla on the Trans Canada Highway in the RM of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The vehicle was stopped as the driver was exceeding the posted speed limit.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the lone occupant in the vehicle was in possession of 621 grams of marijuana, as well as paraphernalia consistent with that used for trafficking marijuana. The total value was approximately $10,000.
A 41-year-old man from Winnipeg was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on February 14, 2011.
Police continue to investigate.
