On November 18, 2010, at about 6:30am, Selkirk RCMP as well as local EMS and Emergency Services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal two vehicle collision.
Initial investigation revealed that a 1999 Volkswagen and a 1999 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck were involved in a collision at the intersection of Vaughan Avenue and Mercy Street in Selkirk, Manitoba. The intersection is controlled with a stop sign.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 28-year-old woman from Selkirk, had to be extricated from her vehicle by Emergency Services. She was transported by ambulance to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Dodge pick-up truck, a 22-year-old man from the RM of St. Andrews, was uninjured and charges against him are pending.
An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation and alcohol is considered to be a factor in this collision.
There were no other persons or vehicles reported to have been involved in this collision.
Police continue to investigate.

22-year-old Sean Nicholas Messner, from the RM of St. Andrews, Manitoba, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death. Messner has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Selkirk Provincial Court on January 21, 2011.
