The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has ruled against an application by CN Rail that would have ended use of a Winnipeg interchange by the American railway company BNSF, which has used it for 97 years to transport grain to U.S. markets.
The ruling ensures that an important competitive element will remain in the U.S. transportation corridor.
The CWB intervened in the case to oppose CN’s application. The CWB supports measures that increase railway competition to encourage reasonable rates and adequate service for farmers.
