Three people are dead, including two parents from Winnipeg, after a vehicle collision near Yorkton Saskatchewan.
RCMP in Yorkton continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the three person fatal collision that occurred November 21, 2010 in the morning 1 km east of the community of Saltcoats on Highway 16. Saltcoats is located approximately 24 km south east of Yorkton.
The collision occurred when a westbound sedan attempted to pass another vehicle when it collided with an eastbound minivan. The occupants of the minivan was a family from Winnipeg, Manitoba, the parents and four male children. Both parents were declared deceased at the scene, and both were 38-years-old. Two of the children, aged 16 and 9 were taken to Hospital in Yorkton for treatment. The other two children, aged 15 and 13, were air lifted to Regina Hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the sedan, a 17-year-old female from Yorkton was also declared deceased at the scene.
Road conditions at the time were snow covered and visibility was reduced.
