From December 20 to December 26, 2010, the RCMP Holiday Check Stop Program has resulted in numerous charges.

• 4447 vehicles were checked across the Province of Manitoba during 120 Check Stops

• 15 people charged with either Impaired driving or Drive Over .08.

• The average blood/alcohol reading was 167 mgs%(0.167) – over double the legal limit.

• An additional three people were charged with Refusal.

Other stats from the 2010/2011  program include:

• Five – 24 hour alcohol-related roadside suspensions (compared to 6 last year during the same period).

• Thirty-three people charged for not wearing their seatbelts

• Another additional 300 traffic related provincial statute charges laid.

During the same period of the 2009/2010 program there were 28 people charged for impaired driving related offences.

Since the start of the 2010-2011 Christmas Check Stop program, the RCMP has charged 88 people with Impaired driving, Drive Over .08, or Refusal, and issued 40 24-hour alcohol related roadside suspensions.

One person was killed in a fatal single vehicle rollover on December 23 in Swan River. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The RCMP Christmas Check Stop Program will continue through the New Year’s long weekend until January 3, 2011.

RCMP remind the public that alcohol and driving is a recipe for disaster, please don’t drink and drive.
