After 20 years of personal response services for older adults throughout Manitoba, Victoria Lifeline offers a new enhancement to its resources for rural Manitoba.

To acknowledge the contributions of rural communities in assisting Victoria Lifeline to increase the reach of this valuable service throughout Manitoba, applications are now available for up to three grants of up to $1,000 each. The goal is to assist non-profit community groups to cover the cost of a specific project, event or piece of equipment that will contribute to the safety, independence, health education, active living and /or health of older adults (and possibly others) in their community.

“Locally, we’re tremendously proud of the difference our program is making in the Municipality of Ritchot and Lorette, and how we are able to help the seniors in our community live safely, with confidence, and with peace of mind,” said Denise Laurencelle(Community Resource Coordinator for Ritchot Senior Service). “This is another way we can offer support to the community with the help of Victoria Lifeline.”

Victoria Lifeline, a non-profit service of the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, offers a medical alert service designed to reduce the risk of living alone for community-dwelling seniors and patients with medical conditions. With the press of a waterproof button, appropriate assistance is sent by a professionally trained Lifeline Associate, 24 hours a day. Using 2-way voice communication, Lifeline Associates quickly assess the situation and send the right help for any situation – whether it is a neighbor, family member or emergency services.

Applications for these rural community grants are available through the local Services to Seniors office at 1-204-883-2880, Victoria Lifeline 1-888-722-5222 or visit www.victorialifeline.ca. Deadline for applications is March 31.
