Around 12:15am on December 30, 2010, officers from the Grandview RCMP detachment were called to a home in the RM of Gilbert Plains as someone had just stolen a truck from the yard.

RCMP report that residents at the home had stopped the theft and apprehended the suspect. When officers arrived the man was arrested.

Investigators determined that earlier in the evening, the man had stolen items from a number of vehicles in Dauphin, then stole a car from Dauphin. The car was driven to Gilbert Plains where it was driven in to a ditch. A van was then stolen from a home in Gilbert Plains and driven north and then ditched. The man then stole a truck from a nearby residence and drove it north until putting it in a ditch. The man then stole the truck from the yard where he was stopped by the residents.

Investigators also determined that the man was on bail and also on probation at the time of this incident.

20-year-old Freeman Thomas Zong of Dauphin, has been charged with a number of criminal offences including theft of a motor vehicle, breach of probation and breach of recognizance and has been remanded in custody to appear in Provincial Court in Dauphin on January 4, 2011.

RCMP report that all stolen vehicles have been recovered and the investigation is continuing.
