Residents in the Ile des Chênes and Grand Pointe areas are being asked to voice their opinions on what kind of sports complex they’d like to see in the community.
The survey is being conducted by the Community Development Corporation (CDC) of Ritchot. The group was established last year to promote community development within the municipality.
Their first task was to hold community meetings in order to determine local priorities. In Ile des Chênes, the priority is to establish a consolidated sports recreation center, which would include the Grande Pointe area. The complex would be located next to the current arena in Ile des Chênes.
The CDC believes that their project falls within the new federal government program called Building Canada Fund. If the project falls within that program it could receive funding from the federal, provincial and municipal governments.
In order for the project to proceed, the community is being asked to voice their opinions, through the survey.
“This survey offers a number of choices to be considered,” explained Cyril Durand, CDC member. “Every attempt will be made to develop a facility that is consistent with these choices.”
Some of the ideas being considered are an upgrade to the arena, a new community center, office for health services, public daycare, fitness center, curling rink and indoor soccer.
