Week four of the RCMP Christmas Check Stop program, from December 27th, 2010 to January 2, 2011 resulted in numerous charges.
• 4,497 vehicles checked across the Province of Manitoba during 140 Check Stops
• 24 people charged with either Impaired driving or Drive Over .08.
• An additional three people were charged with Refusal.
Other stats from week four of the 2010/2011 program include:
• Three (3) – 24 hour alcohol-related roadside suspensions.
• Twelve (12) people charged for failing to wear seatbelts.
• Another additional 242 traffic related provincial statute charges laid.
There were no fatal motor vehicle collisions during the final week of the Christmas Check Stop Program.
RCMP Christmas Check Stop Program totals
In total, the 2010/2011 RCMP Christmas Check Stop program resulted in:
• 20,774 vehicles checked (compared to 19,232 in 2009/2010)
• 115 people charged with Impaired driving, Drive Over .08, or Refusal (compared to 108 in 2009/2010)
• 52 (24-hour) alcohol related roadside suspensions (compared to 55 in 2009/2010)
• 129 people charged for failing to wear seatbelts (compared to 279 in 2009/2010)
• 1,450 people charged with traffic related provincial statute charges (compared to 2,511 in 2009/2010)
Throughout the 2010/2011 check Stop season, there were 3 fatal Collisions resulting in 3 deceased – alcohol is believed to be a factor in only one of the collisions. (Last year saw 8 fatal collisions with 8 deceased. Alcohol was considered a factor in only one of these collisions).
