On January 13, 2011, RCMP arrested and charged a resident of the RM of Springfield in connection with an assault incident from last February.
On February 10, 2010, the Winnipeg RCMP Major Crime Unit commenced an investigation into a report from staff at Health Sciences Centre of a woman being the victim of a sexual assault.
Initial information from the 26-year-old victim was unable to yield the exact location of the offence. It was however, believed at the time, that the offence had occurred in an area outside of the City of Winnipeg.
The investigation indicated that the victim had been picked up in the City of Winnipeg and taken to a residence outside Winnipeg where she was sexually assaulted. After a period of time, the victim was able to remove herself from the residence and make her way back to Winnipeg.
Subsequent RCMP investigation identified 28-year-old Chauncey Elijah Mustard as the suspect in this offence.
On January 13, 2011, Mustard, a resident of the RM of Springfield, was arrested and charged with sexual assault, choke to overcome resistance, anal intercourse, forcible confinement, assault and procure illicit sex.
Mustard was remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Court on Monday, January 17, 2011.
Winnipeg RCMP Major Crime Unit and Oakbank RCMP Detachment continue to investigate.
