At about 2:30pm, Selkirk RCMP as well as local Emergency Services and EMS were dispatched to the scene of a fatal two vehicle collision on Highway 9 at Donald Road.

Initial investigation indicates a 2003 Ford Explorer was northbound on Highway 9 when it collided with a southbound 2005 Pontiac.

The two adult occupants of the explorer were transported to hospital with what are reported as serious, non life threatening injuries. An adult woman and a male youth from the Pontiac were transported to hospital with what are reported to be serious, non life threatening injuries. An adult female from the Pontiac was deceased at the scene of the collision.

The highway has re-opened to traffic. Witnesses describe the highway conditions at the time of the collision as extremely icy, with some blowing snow.

There were no other persons or vehicles reported to be involved in this collision.

RCMP advise all motorists throughout the Province to use caution when traveling today and drive to road conditions.

The deceased has been identified as a 71-year-old woman from the RM of St Clements. The other two occupants of the Pontiac Wave, a 46-year-old woman and a 12-year-old male were also from the RM of St. Clements. The two occupants from the Ford Explorer, a 63-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, were both from the City of Winnipeg. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor at this time. Police continue to investigate.
