On January 28, 2011, at 2:40pm, RCMP units were dispatched to a fatal collision on Highway 59 between the intersections of Highway 12 and Stead Road.
A mini van, with two adults, the male driver, a female passenger, along with a 3-year-old girl on board, were southbound on Highway 59 when the driver lost control resulting in a collision with a northbound pick-up truck with 4 adults from the Fort Alexander area in the vehicle.
Both adults on board the mini-van, a 71-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman (believed to be common law), perished. A 3-year-old girl who was a passenger on board the van was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
All 4 adults on board the pick-up truck were also taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.
Alcohol is not considered a factor. Road conditions are reported to have been very poor and are believed to be a contributing factor.
Highway 59 was closed to traffic for 5 hours.
RCMP continue to investigate.
