On February 1, 2011, just after 5pm, Central Plains RCMP, as well as Portage la Prairie Emergency Services and EMS, responded to a hit and run collision.
RCMP report that the collision occurred at the intersection of Lorne Avenue and 6th Street NE in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
Investigation revealed that a grey, 2008 Pontiac G5, had proceeded north through a stop sign on 6th Street and collided with a grey, 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue which was traveling east on Lorne Avenue. The driver in the Pontiac G5 then turned around and drove away heading south on 6th Street.
The driver of the Oldsmobile Intrigue, a 23-year-old man from Portage la Prairie, was transported to Hospital with what were reported to be undetermined, non life threatening injuries.
Shortly after 5:30pm, on the same date, police received a report that the 2008 Pontiac G5 had been stolen from the parking lot at the Manitoba Developmental Center in Portage la Prairie. This vehicle was later recovered in a parking lot east of the Baptiste Church on 3rd Street SE in Portage la Prairie, however the suspects had already fled the location.
