Central Plains RCMP have laid charges in connection with an assault incident from last month involving a 96-year-old woman.
On the evening of January 27, 2011, the Central Plains RCMP were called to the residence of a 96-year-old female in the north west area of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
The female had been located by neighbours with severe injuries believed to be from an assault. The victim was transported to the Portage General Hospital and was treated for her injuries. She has since been released.
The Central Plains RCMP along with Portage La Prairie General Investigations Section and the Winnipeg RCMP Major Crime Services have been investigating this incident.
On February 18, 2011, 21-year-old, Rick David Mather, a resident of Portage la Prairie, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in relation to this incident. Mather was remanded into custody to appear in Portage La Prairie Provincial Court on February 23, 2011.
Police continue to investigate.
