On February 24, 2011, at approximately 10:50am, Steinbach RCMP responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Main Street and Friesen Avenue in Steinbach.
The investigation determined that a northbound Mazda van failed to stop for a red light and struck an eastbound school bus. Both vehicles then collided with a traffic light and then struck a westbound dump truck.
The school bus was empty except for the driver. This driver and the dump truck driver were not injured.
The driver of the van, a 73-year-old male from Steinbach, was transported to the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach. He was then transported to the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg where he remains in critical condition.
