An investment of $16,800 from the Federal government was announced today at the Steinbach Arts Council in support of the Summer in the City Festival.
The announcement was made today by the Honourable Vic Toews, Member of Parliament for Provencher on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister for Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
“Canadians have every reason to be proud of their communities and to celebrate their collective sense of belonging to a unique place in this country.” said Toews. “Our Government wants to partner with communities. We want to encourage the stories and the celebrations. We want future generations to be aware of their origins and Canada’s rich and diverse heritage.”
In September 2007, the Government of Canada announced the new Building Communities through Arts and Heritage (BCAH) program to provide Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
At the heart of this announcement was an expression of pride in our communities and a desire to partner with these communities.
The Summer in the City Festival will showcase local artists, artisans and heritage presenters through music, dance, comedy, visual arts exhibitions and tours of the community.
