On April 6, 2011 at about 9:30pm, Thompson RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance at an apartment on Fox Bay in the City of Thompson.

RCMP officers attended the apartment and could hear shouting and sounds of a disturbance coming from inside. A male occupant inside the apartment refused to open the door and a distraught woman could also be heard making references to a knife.

RCMP members forcibly gained entry to the apartment at which point the suspect, who was highly agitated, was found holding a knife at the woman’s neck. The suspect was ordered by police to drop the knife. He refused and a conducted energy weapon was deployed. The suspect was disarmed, arrested and handcuffed without further incident.

Local EMS was contacted, and attended to examine the 69-year-old woman. She was very shaken by the incident but otherwise unhurt. The suspect was also examined by EMS and required no medical attention.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Brian George Halcrow of Thompson, was taken into custody. Halcrow has since been charged with forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, mischief and breach of recognizance. Halcrow has been remanded to appear on April 11, 2011 in Thompson Provincial Court.

The investigation is continuing.
