Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans will soon be able to sport special licence plates on their cars showing their support for their team. This was announced by Justice Minister Andrew Swan, minister responsible for Manitoba Public Insurance.
The Blue Bombers licence plate initiative, which will be administered by Manitoba Public Insurance, will be implemented on a pilot basis with a limited-edition specialty plate being released prior to the start of the 2011 Canadian Football League season.
“Fans of the Blue Bombers are passionate about their football team,” said Swan. “They have told us that they want to show support for their team by displaying a specialized licence plate. MPI will work closely with the Bombers to ensure the licence plate reflects the proud history of the club and meets the needs of all partners.”
The special, limited-edition plates, which will be available in early June, will be a must-have for any die-hard Bombers fan, Swan said.
“We’re very pleased to announce this initiative in partnership with the Province of Manitoba and Manitoba Public Insurance. This is another great opportunity for fans across the Province of Manitoba to show their support for the Blue Bombers,” said Blue Bombers president Jim Bell.
Fans will be able to visit any of Manitoba’s more than 300 Autopac agents to purchase their plates.
The Blue Bombers plate will be the second specialty plate available in the province. In 2004, Manitoba approved the issuing of a specialty licence plate to honour veterans.
Following the launch of the Bombers licence plate pilot project, an evaluation will be conducted to determine the possibility of producing licence plates for other community groups or organizations in the province.
