On April 29, 2011, at 1:45am, Carberry RCMP were dispatched to a semi traveling eastbound on the Transcanada Highway. The semi was reported was reported to have sparks flying out from under it.
Police intercepted the semi nearby and advised the driver of the situation. The sparks were reportedly being caused from a dragging steel safety chain.
RCMP also did some computer checks on the driver which revealed a warrant for his arrest from San Bernardino, California, USA, for vehicular homicide.
A 50-year-old man, Abraham Hernandez Gonzalez, of Yuma, Arizona, USA, was taken into custody without incident and held at the Brandon Correctional Institute for the Canadian Border Services Agency to begin the extradition process to the United States.
San Bernardino Police Department were notified and are collaborating their efforts to have Gonzalez returned to San Bernardino.
This matter remains under investigation.
