On May 1, 2011, at about 3:20am, Shoal Lake RCMP and Hamiota members along with Hamiota Fire and EMS responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Birch Avenue in the Town of Hamiota.
RCMP found a pick-up truck with 5 occupants. Three of the occupants were pronounced deceased and two have been taken to Brandon Regional Health Center for undetermined injuries.
Deceased are a male 23-year-old driver from Hamiota and two passengers, a 25-year-old female also from Hamiota and a male 35-year-old passenger from the RM of Woodworth. The other two passengers, an adult male and female are being treated for undetermined injuries.
At present, it is believed that the driver lost control of the pick-up truck on Birch Avenue, skidded into a ditch and struck a tree. Road conditions were reported as being poor. At present speed is suspected to be a contributing factor.
