Three members of the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (2PPCLI) based at CFB Shilo were killed in a single vehicle accident early Sunday morning on May 1, 2011.
Private Daniel Scoular, 24, of Half Moon Bay, British Columbia and Private Brayden MacLachlan, 26, of Port Dover, Ontario were killed when the vehicle they were in left the road and became submerged in a creek just east of Brandon, MB. Corporal Yannick Wright, 27, of Toronto, Ontario, died this morning in Brandon hospital of injuries suffered in the same accident.
Private Scoular had been in the Canadian Forces for just under two years and had been posted to Shilo in July 2010.
Private MacLachlan had been in the Canadian Forces for almost three years and had been posted to Shilo in July 2010.
Corporal Wright had been in the Canadian Forces for three years and had been posted to Shilo in 2008. He had been on one tour to Afghanistan in 2009.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Daniel, Brayden, and Yannick and our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to their families.” said LCol Shane Schreiber, Commanding Officer of 2PPCLI. “They were excellent soldiers, friends and young men, and they will be very much missed by their comrades in the Regiment.”
One other CF member was injured in the crash. He remains in hospital.
Funeral services for Privates Scoular and MacLachlan and Corporal Wright will be held in accordance with the wishes of their families. 2 PPCLI will hold a separate memorial service for the three men at a later date.
