Over 4,000 hogs perished in a large hog barn fire in the Rural Municipality of Hanover.
On May 21, 2011 at approximately 2:53am, Steinbach RCMP responded to a large hog barn fire with a very large feeder barn located in the RM of Hanover.
Fire had completely engulfed the structure when police, Fire Department and Paramedics arrived on scene.
The Environment officer was also present in order to determine if there were any animal welfare issues.
RCMP report that over 4,000 hogs perished in the fire. There is no estimate of damage at this time.
The Office of the Fire Commissioner attended and deemed the fire accidental and are still continuing their investigation.
