On May 23, 2011, at about 5am, Portage la Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of an assault in the RM of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Investigation revealed that a 16-year-old girl had been assaulted by a male at a residence. A 39-year-old man from the RM of Portage la Prairie was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. The victim and the accused are not related.

The accused is a member of the Dakota Ojibway Police Service. He has been charged with impaired driving, driving over .08, forcible confinement, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, as well as supplying liquor to a minor under the Liquor Control Act. He has also has been charged at this time with sexual assault and sexual interference resulting from an earlier incident with the same victim.

The accused is scheduled to make a first appearance in Winnipeg Provincial Court on May 26, 2011. In order to protect the identity of the victim, the name of the accused will not be released.
