On June 7, 2011, at about 3:15pm, Portage RCMP along with the Austin, MacGregor and Carberry Fire Departments and MacGregor EMS, responded to a residential fire just east of Sidney, MB in the RM of Norfolk.

RCMP learned that the owner could smell smoke while in his house and found smoke coming from the roof area. The owner along with two family members exited the house and called 911.

RCMP report that no one was harmed in this incident.

Although the Fire Departments were successful at saving the home, it sustained substantive damage in the roof area. No damage estimates are currently available.

The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner also attended to assist in the investigation. The fire is not deemed suspicious in nature. While the cause has yet to be confirmed, lightning storms were noted in the area at the time.
