The second phase of the 2011 Census has started as one-in-three Manitoba households will receive a National Household Survey (NHS) form. This was said by Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade Minister Peter Bjornson.

The Manitoba government is encouraging all receiving households to complete the NHS form, as it provides crucial information used in the planning for vital front-line services such as health care, education and crime protection, said the minister.

“The information gathered by the National Household Survey is very important to the people of Manitoba,” he said. “All levels of government in our province use this information to guide decisions about funding, planning and policies for our communities. These are decisions that affect every Manitoban on a daily basis, so it’s imperative that we have accurate information.”

The NHS form gathers information that is used for businesses, health-care and social-services agencies, charities, and community and other non-profit organizations to understand the current status of our communities and their needs.

All individual information will be kept confidential by Statistics Canada, with only aggregated information to be released, Bjornson said.

Manitobans can obtain further information regarding the NHS at the website called CensUS 2011 It Benefits Us All at www.manitoba.ca/census.
