In the early morning of June 18, 2011, RCMP Oxford House became aware of two serious assaults, including a 26-year-old woman who was abducted and unaccounted for.
As the investigation was unfolding, an intense search for the female victim ensued. RCMP mobilized a helicopter, quads and additional members from North District were flown in to search for both the accused and the victim.
RCMP have since learned that in the early hours of June 18, a 21-year-old male attacked a 22-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman in a residence. The man was tied to a chair and stabbed. The female was bound, sexually assaulted and stabbed. The assailant then abducted the female, forcing her to go with him for several hours. She was sexually assaulted before escaping her captor and notifying police of her whereabouts at about 7:30pm on June 18.
RCMP report that the motivation behind the attack is unknown at this point.
Both victims received medical treatment. The woman was taken to the local nursing station and flown to a hospital for further treatment. She is reported in stable condition. The male victim was also flown out of the community for treatment. He has since been released from hospital.
The victim’s names are not being released.
The suspect was arrested by Oxford House RCMP members on June 19 at about 9:30pm. He was located in an Oxford House residence.
The investigation is continuing and although no charges have been laid as of yet, numerous charges are pending. The accused and victims are known to each other. All involved are residents of Oxford House FN.
