On July 14, 2011, just after 2:15am, Central Plains RCMP, as well as Portage la Prairie Emergency Services and MacGregor EMS, responded to a 2 vehicle and farm tractor collision on Highway 1, west of Portage la Prairie on the diversion bridge.

RCMP report that Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation also attended to assist.

Investigation revealed that a 2004 Mazda 6 collided with a 1999 Toyota Tercel which then collided with an older farm tractor, all of which were traveling west on the Trans Canada Highway.

The 68-year-old male driver of the tractor and the 68-year-old female driver and lone occupant of the Toyota Tercel, both from McDonald, were transported to hospital with what were reported to be undetermined, non life threatening injuries.

The 24-year-old male driver of the Mazda 6, along with the 21-year-female passenger and 2-year-old child, all from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, were also transported to hospital with what were reported to be undetermined, non life threatening injuries.

The westbound lane over the bridge was closed and traffic was rerouted for a short period of time.

Police continue to investigate.
