Small floatplane

A small floatplane sits in Wellman Lake after striking a beaver dam and flipping over.

At 3:30pm, on July 14, 2011, a small Lake Buccaneer floatplane crashed in Wellman Lake, approximately 55 kilometres southeast of Swan River.

Police say that the plane appeared to lose power on take-off, at which point it struck a beaver dam and flipped over. All occupants escaped and were rescued by boat and taken to shore.

RCMP report that the 61-year-old male pilot, from the Swan River area, and two adult men, one from Whitehorse and the other from Dauphin, survived the crash. All men were treated and released from the Swan Valley Health Centre.

A joint investigation involving the Transportation Safety Board , Manitoba Conservation and Swan River RCMP continues.
