Following the announcement of Robert B. Brennan’s retirement, the Board of Directors of Manitoba Hydro confirmed that the search for a new CEO is well underway.

“The CEO search process began in April of this year, following Bob’s notice that he planned to retire,” said Vic Schroeder, Manitoba Hydro Board Chairman. “Taking into account the great talent available at Manitoba Hydro, our search will start internally with all suitable candidates being considered. We’ll also be conducting a global search to ensure we find the most qualified candidate to fill the position of CEO.”

The board has selected an international search firm to assist in finding a new CEO. The Human Resources and Governance committee of the board worked to identify executive search firms that had capability in identifying both internal and external candidates as well as extensive experience with power utilities. This field was narrowed to four firms who were invited to submit proposals. Two firms were then selected for interview.

“The firm of Odgers Berndston was chosen due to its experience in energy and utilities and due to the quality of the personnel assigned to this particular task,” said Schroeder. The firm specializes in recruiting services for top-level executives and will work with Manitoba Hydro in finding a successor for Brennan.

The search to replace Brennan will take several months and the board anticipates the process and a new appointment will be completed in early 2012. Until that time, Brennan will continue as President and CEO.

The Manitoba Hydro Act charges the Hydro Board with responsibility for appointing the Corporation’s CEO subject to the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
