Human remains have been located during a detailed ground search for Nancy Swenty, who was reported missing last month.
On August 27, 2011, at about 6pm, while searching for Nancy Swenty, members of a civilian search party encountered items of interest including a black Co-op jacket along a roadway, south east of Poplar Field, Manitoba. The RCMP Fisher Branch Detachment members were called to the area and secured the scene.
The following morning on August 28, a detailed ground search of the area was conducted by the RCMP Search and Rescue Team and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section. During the search, human remains were located in the vicinity of the items found.
The identity of the remains are not yet determined. An autopsy will take place in Winnipeg at a later date.
The RCMP Major Crime Services, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section along with Fisher Branch RCMP Detachment continue to investigate.
