On September 21, 2011, RCMP Headingley Traffic Services, along with other partner agencies, hosted a mock collision at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Memorial Gardens located at 4000 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg.
RCMP report that approximately 150 high school students were in attendance at this year’s event.
The focus of this year’s mock collision was distracted driving, namely cellular phone usage while driving. Cell phone usage while driving, especially among young drivers, is and continues to be a serious safety concern.
Police say that there have recently been a number of serious motor vehicle collisions with cell phone usage being attributed as a factor.
The event demonstrated the dangers and consequences of distracted driving, namely using cellular phones while driving.
