On October 8, 2011, just before 9am, Steinbach RCMP as well as local Emergency Services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision, 1 mile east of Steinbach on Highway 52 in the RM of La Broquerie.
Initial investigation indicates that a 2005 Toyota Camry was eastbound on Highway 52 when it collided with an eastbound 2011 Ford Fusion.
The driver and lone occupant of the Ford Fusion, a 45-year-old woman from the RM of La Broquerie, was transported to hospital with serious, undetermined injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, a 76-year-old man from the RM of Piney was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His name will not be released.
The Toyota had one passenger, a 73-year-old woman from the RM of Piney. She was transported to hospital with serious, undetermined injuries.
An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation.
RCMP report that weather conditions were clear and dry with good visibility at the time of the collision. There is no indication of speed or alcohol being factors in the collision at this time.
No other persons or vehicles were reported to be involved in this collision.
Police continue to investigate.
