The Honourable Vic Toews, Regional Minister for Manitoba and Member of Parliament for Provencher issued a statement on the passing of the Honourable Reg Alcock.
“It was with great sadness that I learned today of the sudden passing of Reg Alcock. Reg was a strong Parliamentarian who committed many years of his life to public service as a representative in both the Manitoba Legislature and the House of Commons.
During his career as a federal cabinet Minister, Reg took his role as Regional Minister for Manitoba to heart, placing issues of importance to his fellow Manitobans on the Government’s radar.
During my own time as Regional Minister for Manitoba I have benefited from both his experience in the role and his vast knowledge of issues facing our province.
Though his career as an elected official was behind him in recent years, his interest in public policy did not wane as he accepted the position of Executive in Residence at the University of Manitoba’s Asper School of Business. It was through this most recent career posting that he was able to impart much of the wisdom acquired from his many years of experience on the next generation of decision makers. That work has ended far too soon.
My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to his partner Karen Taraska-Alcock, children Sarah, Matthew and Christina and to his wide network of friends, colleagues and students.”
