An RCMP Opaskwayak Cree Nation Detachment member is facing assault charges in connection with an incident that occurred earlier this year.
On January 19, 2011, RCMP were notified of a complaint of excessive force by the Commission for Public Complaints. The complaint related to an incident on December 18, 2010, allegedly involving an RCMP Opaskwayak Cree Nation Detachment member, while at the RCMP The Pas Detachment. As such, an investigation was initiated and conducted by the RCMP.
The complaint involved a 28-year-old man from Opaskwayak Cree Nation who had been arrested for causing a disturbance at a local establishment and taken into custody to The Pas Detachment where the offence allegedly occurred during the booking process.
On October 7, 2011, following a recommendation by Manitoba Justice, 32-year-old Rene David Pashe was charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.
On October 18, 2011, Rene David Pashe was served a summons to appear in The Pas Provincial Court on November 28, 2011.
Rene David Pashe has been placed on administrative duties pending an internal review. He has since been transferred to the West District. Pashe has nearly six years of service with the RCMP and holds the rank of Constable.
