James Anthony Rush from the RM of La Broquerie is facing 49 firearms related charges in an ongoing police investigation.
On October 16, 2011, units from the RCMP Altona Customs and Excise Section and the Canadian Firearms Program: National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST) executed a search warrant in the RM of La Broquerie. This search was the culmination of a joint investigation involving the RCMP Customs and Excise Altona Office and NWEST.
With the assistance of numerous RCMP units including the RCMP Customs and Excise Boissevain Office, the RCMP D Division Search and Rescue Team, the RCMP East District Containment Team, the RCMP Steinbach Detachment, RCMP D Division Customs and Excise and with support from the Winnipeg Police Service an extensive search of a rural land location, multiple outbuildings and vehicles was undertaken over a three day period.
The successful search resulted in 49 firearms related charges being laid against James Anthony Rush a 37-year-old resident of that location. James Rush remains in custody.
Some of the items recovered include:
• 2 prohibited handguns with obliterated serial numbers
• 1 prohibited semi-automatic assault rifle
• 4 non-restricted rifles
• 2 pellet handguns
• 2 pellet rifles
• multiple high capacity magazines and
• thousands of rounds of ammunition of various calibers.
The investigation into this matter is ongoing and police anticipate further charges may be forthcoming.
