Two elderly ladies have died after their car collided with a gravel truck in Steinbach this afternoon.
On November 11, 2011, at 3pm, Steinbach RCMP and EMS were dispatched to Highway 12 and Clearspring Road in Steinbach to a collision between a car and a gravel truck.
Early investigation indicates that a car with two elderly ladies on board, were traveling northbound when they hit an eastbound gravel truck at the intersection. Police say that at this point, evidence suggests that the driver of the car drove through a red light.
RCMP report that both occupants perished. The truck driver, an 18-year-old man from the area, did not suffer any injuries.
RCMP remained at the scene investigating with the assistance of an RCMP Traffic Analyst.
The two northbound lanes had been closed to traffic.
Alcohol is not considered a factor in this collision.
