The Honourable Vic Toews, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Regional Minister for Manitoba, congratulated Herbert Rempel on his appointment as a judge of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench of Manitoba (Family Division).
“Mr. Rempel has shown immense commitment to both his community and his profession and is very deserving of this appointment,” said Minister Toews. “I have no doubt that his wealth of experience will serve him well in this new role.”
Mr. Justice Rempel received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg in 1984 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba in 1987. He was admitted to the Bar of Manitoba in 1988.
Mr. Justice Rempel has been a lawyer with Pullan Kammerloch Frolinger since 2004 and practices in both Winnipeg and Steinbach. He was an associate with Loewen Martens & Rempel from 1991 to 2003 and with Booth Dennchy from 1988 to 1991. His main areas of focus were adoption, corporate and commercial law, wills, estates, and civil litigation.
Mr. Justice Rempel was a member of the Estate Planning Council of Winnipeg and a board member of the Canadian-Manitoba Bar Association, as well as a member of the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors. He was a sessional lecturer at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Law, from 1994 to 1996, and a lecturer for educational seminars conducted by Adoption Options. He has also been a member of the boards of numerous community organizations.
Mr. Justice Rempel will replace Madam Justice R.M. Diamond, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of February 26, 2011.
