The RM of De Salaberry will make application for several government grants to help with projects within the municipality.
The municipality has decided to take advantage of a new government grant program called the Building Canada Fund. The Building Canada Fund is the Government of Canada’s new flagship infrastructure program announced at the beginning of February.
The program is expected to advance national priorities that are important to all Canadians such as a stronger economy, a cleaner environment, and better communities, while it addresses local and regional infrastructure needs.
Shortly after the announcement of the program, the RM of De Salaberry met at a special meeting to discuss three projects currently in the works within the municipality. As a result of this meeting, three funding applications were forwarded to the Building Canada Fund.
Two of the projects submitted for consideration by the RM of De Salaberry are slated for St. Malo.
The municipality has listed submitting an application as a top priority for funding for the construction of sewer and water force main along Gosselin Road. A second project that includes seal coating Gosselin Road was also listed.
The third application was made on behalf of the Regional Museum and Tourist Center, with the municipality to make a request for funding for the development of a museum and tourist center in the area.
The Building Canada Funding Fund will be allocated for projects in the provinces and territories based on population density and all major projects will be selected through federal-provincial/territorial negotiations.
