Two RM of Whitewater residents are facing criminal charges in connection to a shooting investigation which began in November.
On November 26, 2011, Deloraine RCMP were dispatched to a shooting incident that had occurred at a residence in the RM of Whitewater, Manitoba. Initial investigation indicated that a 5-year-old boy had come to be in possession of a firearm and shot his 4-year-old sister.
On December 15, 2011, the parents of the children involved in this shooting were arrested have since been released from police custody.
A 33-year-old man from the RM of Whitewater will be facing charges of careless use of a firearm, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
A 23-year-old woman from the RM of Whitewater will be facing charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Both were released on promise to appear and are scheduled to appear in Killarney Provincial Court on February 22, 2012. Their names will not be released as it may identify the children involved.
