From December 12 to 18, 2011, the RCMP Holiday Check Stop Program has resulted in numerous charges.
• 5569 vehicles were checked across the Province of Manitoba during 148 check stops
• 28 people were charged with either Impaired Driving or Drive Over .08.
• The average blood/alcohol reading was 147 mgs%(0.147) – just less than double the legal limit.
• The highest blood/alcohol reading was 250 mgs% (0.25) – over 3 times the legal limit
• vAn additional 6 people were charged with Refusal.
Other stats from Week Two of the 2011/2012 Holiday Check Stop program include:
• Ten (10) – 24 hour alcohol-related roadside suspensions.
• 23 people charged for not wearing their seatbelts
• 475 other traffic related provincial statute (HTA) charges laid.
• 11 other Criminal Code offences
Police were also able to charge an individual in relation to a stolen vehicle during one Check Stop.
During the same period of the 2010/2011 program there were 23 people charged for impaired driving related offences (Impaired, Over .08, or Refusal).
Since the start of the 2011/2012 Christmas Check Stop program, the RCMP has charged 80 people with Impaired Driving, Drive Over .08, or Refusal; and has issued twenty-four (24) alcohol related 24-hour roadside suspensions.
There was one traffic related fatality that occurred this week on Highway #3 near Morden. Alcohol is not considered a factor.
