A man from Rainy River, Ontario, will be appearing in Steinbach court after being charged with numerous firearms related charges this past December.
On December 20, 2011, at approximately 11:35am, Steinbach RCMP were contacted by the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) at the Sprague Port of entry advising they were detaining a male subject for Smuggling or attempting to smuggle goods which are prohibited, controlled or regulated under the Customs Act.
Further investigation by the Steinbach RCMP revealed that the man had failed to declare importing a prohibited weapon (firearm) into Canada.
A 66-year-old man from Rainy River, Ontario, was charged with importing a prohibited weapon into Canada and five other firearms related offences under the Criminal Code of Canada. He was released from custody and is to appear in court on February 2, 2012 in Steinbach.
Police continue to investigate.
