The Seine River School Division will move forward with the expansion of more classroom space in La Broquerie.
The division recently submitted to the province a new set of plans for review that would allow for the renovation of Arborgate School. Trustees were forced to revisit the plans for a new school after the province informed them that the money would not be available and a renovation-only project should be considered in the interim.
According to Mike Borgfjord, the new plans propose the construction of a new gym, multipurpose room and new science labs which will make room for an additional 80 students. Currently there are about 330 students that attend Arborgate School.
The initial project was to construct a new school in La Broquerie for grades 5 through 12. However, the province informed the division that they must revise their plan to include the renovation of Arborgate School, and to add on a small space which would make it a kindergarten to grade 8 school instead.
Upon inquiry, the Seine River School Division was told that the school’s finance board did not have the money to build a new school as originally planned.
The division intends to continue to lobby for a grade 9 to 12 school in the future.
