Just after 11pm on January 26, 2012, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a residential fire in an apartment building in the first block of 2nd Avenue in Austin, Manitoba.

When members arrived at the location they noted that the Austin Fire Department was already on scene attempting to extinguish the fire. The entire building was engulfed in flames and was demolished by an excavator in order to prevent the fire from spreading to the neighbouring apartment building.

There were no injuries reported, nor was an estimate of the damages provided. The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
