Vic Toews, Member of Parliament for Provencher, was pleased to see the results of the 2011 Census.
Overall, Canada’s population grew 5.9 percent between 2006 and 2011 and now stands at 33,476,688.
The new Census numbers show continued strong growth in many areas of Provencher over the past five years. In fact, Provencher lead the way in Manitoba with a growth rate of more than 12 percent.
“I’m pleased to see the strong growth here in Provencher, and indeed in many areas of the province,” said MP Toews. “Immigration, which has always been a sustaining feature of Canada’s history and continues to play an important role in building our country, has played a large role in this growth. Our Government’s top priority remains completing the economic recovery and our immigration system helps meet our current labour market needs by building our skilled workforce for the future.”
The province of Manitoba’s overall growth rate was 5.2 percent, due in large part to an influx of more than 64,000 immigrants. Many of those immigrants have chosen south-eastern Manitoba as their new home.
