Manitoba Pork Council held its Annual General Meeting in Winnipeg on April 4. The event was well attended with approximately 140 people in attendance during the afternoon session. Manitoba Pork Council Executive was named as follows: Karl Kynoch (Baldur, Manitoba) – Chair, Rick Bergmann (Steinbach, Manitoba) – Vice-Chair, Wendy Friesen (Lowe Farm, Manitoba) and George Matheson (Stonewall, Manitoba.) Approximately 450 guests, representing industry and government, attended the banquet and reception where Minister of Agriculture, Ron Kotyshyn brought greetings from the Province.
MPC also announced the winners of the 2011 Pork Industry Awards at the event.
These awards recognize excellence in Manitoba’s pork industry and are presented annually to individuals, groups and organizations that have made significant contributions to the industry. This year’s recipients are linked by a remarkable spirit of compassion and charity.
The following two awards were presented:
Award of Distinction – Margaret Rempel, Rempelco Acres, received this award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the agriculture sector through passionate commitment and tireless efforts in service to her fellow citizens throughout Canada and around the world.
Education Award – Dr. Don Flaten, Professor, Department of Soil Science, University of Manitoba Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences received this award in recognition of outstanding contributions in raising public awareness of the environmental sustainability of agriculture through exemplary efforts in research, teaching and extension activities.
