More than 700 signatures and counting
Steinbach MLA heads back for the first day of a new sitting of the Manitoba Legislature armed with a stack of petitions calling on the NDP government to make it a priority to get more personal care home spaces and long-term care beds open in the City of Steinbach.
Goertzen has received nearly 60 petitions signed by more than 700 residents with more coming in every week.
“I appreciate people in the community signing and distributing this petition. It is a way to express to the NDP government the need for more PCH and long-term care beds, and the need is great,” said Goertzen. “A city the size of Steinbach needs to have more beds for those that need higher levels of care as they age. The petitions are one way to ensure the government is reminded, on a daily basis, about the need.”
Goertzen noted that he now has enough petitions to ensure that one is read every day that the Legislature sits this session but hopes that the petitions keep coming saying that this may be a long struggle to get the government to take action.
“I don’t want a day that the Legislature sits to go by without the NDP hearing of the need for more long-term care beds in our city. It’s too important to the many Steinbach residents who need this level of care but can’t get it in their own community,” said Goertzen.
