On May 14, 2012, just after 8pm, Amaranth RCMP Detachment received a report that a small vessel had overturned due to high winds near Langruth on Lake Manitoba.
Two passengers, a 22-year-old and a 25-year-old man, both from Sandy Bay FN, were on board the vessel and reportedly thrown into the water. One passenger was able to make it to shore and once located, was transported to Portage General Hospital. He has since been released. The second passenger is still missing.
The joint rescue control center contacted CFB Trenton Search and Rescue and a Hercules aircraft was deployed from CFB Winnipeg to fly over the area. A rescue boat from Ebb and Flow FN Fire Department provided assistance to search for the missing man.
Police have been patrolling the waterfront area near Road 95 and 96 leading to the lake in the Amaranth and Langruth area. Efforts to locate the second passenger and the boat are ongoing at this time with the assistance of Civil Air Search and Rescue Association.
Police continue to investigate.
